My ideal board setup.

Its been 5 years, and I’m back to it. Now I’m not aiming for stunts or ollies or kick flips. I’m going for carving, and cruising. Thats right! LONGBOARDS! I’ve been to Australia long enough, and I’ve always admired surfers cause i myself I’ve never gotten a chance to surf in my life. Mum’s strict about it and i have a bit of phobia for big bodies of water. Though i could swim. I’ve been stalking Originals Longboards long enough and even browsed forums about reviews and opinions about it. Some love it while others loathe it. Since its gonna be my first longboard i’m really gonna spend some time studying about them before i make my first purchase.

I was drooling over the Originals Apex 37 board when i first know about longboards. My first aim was freeboards but its not common in asia cause its only applicable to hills as they are the next closest to snowboarding. So its pretty much summer snowboarding. Freeboards are skateboards with longer trucks and they have extra 2 wheels at the bottom. Gravitis is one of the brands out there which manufactures freeboards and here’s an image of how it looks like (will upload when i fix my browser)

And yes freeboards are NOT easy to ride due to its capability of running sideways. However, once you are well versed with it you could easily do slides, spins and driftings. :)

I liked how longboards are been made especially those which goes over 40″ long. Its really stable and heaps easier to ride than skateboards. I’ve talked with the Original’s via email. He adviced me that a good starter for longboarders would be a Malakai 40. Yes indeed it looks really sweet :P But i dont quite fancy the trucks which goes with it. Unless i replace the stock spring. However, i would prefer the seismic trucks instead, they look really decent from what i see it has 2 springs on the either side which helps re-aligns your board to the center easily.

I’ve also seen the ones by Section 9, Loaded. Section 9 are pretty common around even in my country, Singapore. I’ve seen shops selling their boards. Loaded boards imo are really pricey but then again i’ve always thought that you pay for quality. The New Loaded Tan Tien board is totally BOSS! you guys should check it out! Of course, my best bet if i have the money i would go for the Loaded Dervish.

  1. hi

just wanted to let you know that “Section 9″ is actually Sector 9.
Anyway, i would definitely recommend a Loaded longboard, they are great boards and are great quality. i have a Loaded Vanguard and it is the best carving board you’ll ever find. however, if you want to bomb hills or don’t like lots of flex, don’t get the vanguard. it gets bad speed wobbles if you go too fast. I haven’t tried out the dervish, but it’s easier to push and more stable. I would not recommend Sector 9. They just have many boards that are not the best quality and are all relatively similar. but the choice is up to you. have fun boarding:)

P.S. some other really good brands are Landyachtz and Rayne. check them out
